Facing Insecurities: Embracing Help in Creativity

Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.

Hi, my name is Alex and I am the co-writer behind Fireplace-Poetry! For those who don’t know me, I write rhythmic poetry that is centered around FAITH, FAMILY & LOVE.

A long time ago, I learned that it is OKAY to ask for help. However, the older I get, that seems harder and harder to do. This lesson is one that you hear but for some reason don’t like doing because we all have something to prove to ourself and others. To be 100% transparent, I don’t like asking for help because it makes me feel “inadequate”.

However, something happened to me this morning that I can’t shake so I am finally going to face my insecurity and ask for help! I need someone to help me put lyrics to a beat… (aka make it a song).

Usually when I write poetry, I hear a verse or have an idea of what I want the poem to be about. This morning though, it was completely different – I ACTUALLY HEARD IT IN A MELODY. When I heard the verses, I wasn’t just saying them but singing them out-loud as if it was an anthem!

So to everyone on here or to anyone you know that may be musically gifted – I need your help! I need these lyrics to be put to a beat and truly think we (together) could make something beautiful! If this is something you would be interested in doing – REACH OUT AND LET ME KNOW! 🙂

CATCH US ON FIRE:

Lord, catch us on fire

Let us burn for you

Spirit break out

Do what only you –

can do!

Lord, catch us on fire

Let us feel the flames

Lord, refine us

Holy is –

YOUR name!

Lord, catch us on fire

Let us burn for you

No more darkness

Let your light –

Shine through!

Lord, catch us on fire

Let us feel the flames

Hallelujah, Yahweh

Let your name be praised!

Sorry, I’m no help. I have a half-composed song in my head that has been lurking there for over 40 years. It’s almost complete, but the few spots that are still lacking seem to want to stay that way!! ♫ ♪ ♫ ♪
